What's Inside the Continental Engine?

As a global leader in aviation development, Continental® engines and parts are known for their high quality and excellent performance. Air Power, Inc. is a long-time distributor of Continental® parts - keep reading for more information about what's in your Continental engine!

Crankcases

It’s the backbone of the engine, and its integrity is critical. That’s why Continental® crankcases start with high quality alloys and close tolerance castings. In addition, computerized manufacturing processes ensure a high quality, precision and repeatable crankcase. We dare you to come up with a higher quality case.

Continuous Flow Fuel Injection System

The Continental® continuous flow fuel injection system is among the simplest and most reliable on the market. All Continental® systems are built in-house by qualified technicians. Continental® systems are “married” to each engine to ensure superior fuel delivery under even the most demanding conditions.

Forged-Steel Crankshafts

Our Forged-steel Crankshafts are computer-control machined, then polished and balanced by hand to exacting tolerances so they meet consistent specifications. They’re the hardest-working part on the engine, so why settle for less?

Oil Coolers

Oil coolers are standard on most Continental® engines because properly controlled oil temperatures play an important role in an air-cooled engine.

Magnetos

The Continental® line of Magnetos, manufactured in our factory, have a well-deserved reputation for quality and high performance. Systems for four or six cylinder engines are available, as are special pressurized models for high flying turbocharged aircraft.

Full Authority Digital Engine Controls (FADEC)

Enhanced engine performance is what you receive with our Full Authority Digital Engine Controls (FADEC), raising new standards of reliability and economy. The benefits range from starting ease, reduced pilot workload, more economical engine operation, simplified maintenance and the potential for extended engine life.

High Strength Materials

The incredible power delivered by the Continental® engine per pound of weight is achieved by using high strength materials. Ongoing improvements in design are calculated to make optimum use of these high quality materials and very closely controlled critical dimensions, surfaces, finishes, heat treatments and hardening processes.

Camshafts

Continental® camshafts come with an anti-scuff coating to ease break-in. Continental® engine designs place the cam below the crank which results in improved camshaft lubrication.
