About the Continental IO-550-N

The Continental IO-550-N is a 310-horsepower, fuel-injected, six-cylinder engine built for high-performance aircraft. Trusted by pilots worldwide, it powers top-tier models like the Cirrus SR22, Columbia 400, and Cessna TTx. Known for its reliability, smooth operation, and strong climb performance, the IO-550-N is the proven choice for serious aviators.

The IO-550-N belongs to the larger IO-550 family, which evolved from Continental’s IO-520 series. The stroke was increased from 4.00 to 4.25 inches, boosting total displacement to 552 cubic inches (9.05 liters). These engines deliver between 280 to 360 horsepower, with the IO-550-N producing a rated 310 HP at 2700 RPM.

This engine was first certified on October 13, 1983, under FAA FAR 33 regulations, amendment 33-8 dated May 2, 1977. It’s known for powering a wide range of high-performance aircraft including:

  • Cirrus SR22 and SR22TN
  • Columbia 300, 350, and 400
  • Cessna 350, 400, and TTx
  • Lancair Legacy models
